Today I finished packaging up my first Apple iPhone application and submitted it for review to Apple, Im not sure if it will get apporved on the first review as I’ve missed out a few little things. I just wanted to test the water in case there are some bigger issues in it!

The App is a news aggregator for my www.ipad-review.co.uk site, designed for the iphone so people can catch up on iPad news on the move. I intend to release an iPad version soon also, but I have designed the www.ipad-review.co.uk site to be iPad friendly in the mean time.

The app will be free to download but does contain some mobile ads in an attempt to gain some revenue, but the main objective is to drive traffic to the main web site.

I’ll drop another update soon on how the approval process is going!

Mac OSX on a Netbook

March 25th, 2010 No comments

As I wait and wait for Apple to release a new version of the MacBook Pro range I’ve been laptop less for 3 months now. I gifted my old 13″ MacBook to Alex as a christmas gift (He’s now a Mac convert also!)

I did have his 17″ HP Laptop but I found it heavy and too big for sitting on my lap, which to me is the whole point of a laptop. So to fill the gap I “borrowed” Louise’s little Advent 4211 Netbook and set upon getting OSX running on it. Luckily the Advent is basically an MSI Wind underneath the Advent rebadging so it was really easy! If you want details take a look over at the Wiki and Forums at Insanelywind.com if you have an Advent or MSI Wind netbook.

Other Netbooks can be given the joy of Mac OSX also, take a look at the compatibility chart at myMacNetbook.com

So how does the netbook handle Mac OSX? Well im pleased to say excellently! It’s actually better than the Win 7 install I had on it before. I’ve managed to install all my apps that I’d ever need on the road (or the sofa) and it all runs along at a good rate of knots. The smaller screen real estate can lead to some minor problems, but that was the same in Windows also. With this Netbook all the hardware works, it really is a mini MacBook. If you have an netbook lying around take a look at the above compatibility chart and if possible throw OSX on it.

For sale – Useless domain name! ;)

Looks like I backed the wrong horse with the launch of the Apple iPad. To me iSlate sounded perfect, but now I’ve had to purchase another domain name and transfer all the data over. (Which was easier than I thought)

My latest little website is now live, commenting and reporting news on the upcoming Apple iSlate or Tablet device! Currently there has been no official announcement regarding the device so this looked like a good opportunity to get a website running to report on the speculation.

Personally Im looking forward to seeing the device as I’ve wanted a tablet device for a while (HP Touchsmart Laptop/Tablet was my previous PC) and hope the iSlate is what Im looking for. (Microsoft are about to announce their own version in partnership with HP at this years CES)

They say once you try a Mac you don’t go back… well I can see why! Having played with my MacBook for a week I’ve gone and upgraded my desktop PC to an 24″ iMac. It’s an amazing machine, fast, good looking and so easy. It just works out of the box, it’s a breath of fresh air compared to Vista.
Trying out Blogo at the moment to see if it suits my Mac blogging needs, seems pretty good so far, will try a few others before I get my credit card out! :)
