My new 27" iMac arrives!

December 1st, 2009 No comments

I’ve happily taken delivery of a new iMac, 27″ LED screen, i7 2.8 Quad Core, ATI Radeon HD 4850, 4GB Mem and 1TB HD. It’s an amazing piece of kit, the screen is step up from my 24″ iMac, its just so crisp! Everything is so much snappier with the i7 and the 4GB of RAM. It compiles my C projects so much faster and DVD ripping is stupidly fast!

I found it so easy to migrate from my old Mac to the new one using migration manager, just hook the 2 computers up (WiFi or Firewire) and migrate stuff across, including applications! This saved me hours compared to the way I used to do things on Windows.

Here are my 2 iMac’s migrating data, it took about 2 hours in total over Firewire (about 160gb) and everything worked straight away, all user accounts and applications. I was impressed.

The old iMac has now been stripped for Becky and her Law studies, gone is xcode and unity in comes Microsoft Office 2008 Mac.

They say once you try a Mac you don’t go back… well I can see why! Having played with my MacBook for a week I’ve gone and upgraded my desktop PC to an 24″ iMac. It’s an amazing machine, fast, good looking and so easy. It just works out of the box, it’s a breath of fresh air compared to Vista.
Trying out Blogo at the moment to see if it suits my Mac blogging needs, seems pretty good so far, will try a few others before I get my credit card out! :)
